Rishtan is a small town located in the Fergana valley, with a population of around 32 thousand people. Tajik and Uzbek are the principal languages spoken in this region. The distance between the Fergana and Rishtan is roughly 50 km. Throughout history, the inhabitants of Rishtan town have always been excellent craftsmen very skilled in pottery.

The ancient city is Kyrgyzstan's oldest, with 3,000 years of history. At one point, it was a popular spot for silk production, to be sold along the ancient Silk Road. One of the pearls not only of the Fergana region, but also of the entire valley is the city of Rishtan, located 50 km from Ferghana and Kokand.
